Irina is a researcher, educator & speaker. Her projects address online information disclosure, creepy technologies and the sense of powerlessness people experience in the face of massive personal data collection. Her collaborations with industry and academia explore how we can enrich our understanding and ability to exploit large datasets through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. She is an expert on surveillance and privacy in practice, having completed research on data in contemporary digital lives, critical systems and technology use in crisis response, communication technology use and innovation in Post-Soviet environments, and the use of tracking technologies in personal and institutional settings.
