Dr. Lea Shanley is a Fellow at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Previously, she was a co-Executive Director of the NSF South Big Data Innovation Hub, catalyzing cross-sector partnerships to address societal and scientific challenges, spur economic development, and accelerate data science innovation. As a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow, Shanley collaborated with NASA to design open science/open innovation research strategies for Earth and planetary science; and, with the White House to shape technology policy and launch Citizenscience.gov. In addition, Shanley served as a legislative aide and primary science and technology advisor to Senator Bill Nelson. Shanley volunteers on numerous boards, including for Public Invention, NASA’s Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center, the Southern Data Science Conference, and the European Union’s Big Data Value Association. Her work has been profiled in the White House Blog, MIT Technology Review, Fast Company, NextGov, and GovLoop.
