Dr. Joyce Pittman is a first-generation educator woman of color, who was born and grew up in the deep south. She was an active participant in the civil rights movement in the south, and was recognized by the New York Times, Schools for the Future initiative as a voice of future during an inaugural of this initiative. She is known worldwide by UNESCO members and leaders as a visionary leader in the international education arena. In 2017, Dr. Pittman was an invited guest panel presenter for The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, also known as UN Women, is a United Nations entity working for the empowerment of women and has continued to be an active participant in this global network.
Currently, she is the Principal Investigator for Global-Teach Connect, a Title VI funded partnership between Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, Middle East and South Asia Area Studies Centers in Philadelphia, PA. The project focuses on curriculum to address gender issues and educational issues related to immigrants or language learners.
