Shobita Parthasarathy is Professor of Public Policy and Women's Studies, and Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program, at the University of Michigan. She studies the governance of emerging technologies in the United States, Europe, and India, with a particular interest in understanding their ethical, socioeconomic, political, and legal dimensions. She is the author of multiple articles and two books. The most recent book, Patent Politics, received the 2018 Merton prize for the best book in Science, Knowledge, and Technology from the American Sociological Association. She is a fellow of the Center for Democracy and Technology and has received has received fellowships and grants from the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition, and Tax Law (Germany), the American Bar Foundation, the Wellcome Trust (UK), and the National Science Foundation.
