Kathy McGroddy Goetz is Vice President, Strategy & Innovation, IBM Watson Health. In this role, she is responsible for driving data and technology strategy and roadmaps to drive rapid growth and differentiation across the portfolio. This includes fostering relationships with external parties as well as partnering with IBM Research to drive ongoing innovation.

Prior to her current role, Kathy was Vice President, Partnerships & Solutions, where she led the formation of strategic collaborations with key industry leaders to address the world’s most pressing health challenges.

She is well known as a compelling story teller and is a frequent speaker at conferences and academic events.

Dr. McGroddy Goetz has spent much of her career fostering innovation across advanced technologies and new business models. In addition to managing a P&L over $1B, she has led teams in R&D spanning hardware and software, as well as business development organizations focused on research commercialization, strategic partnerships, and M&A. She has formed many deep collaborative relationships and business partnerships around the world as an IBM executive and played a critical role in the launch of Watson Health, called a “moon shot” by CEO Ginni Rometty.

Dr. McGroddy Goetz earned a B.S. in physics from SUNY Binghamton and a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics from Cornell University. She holds five patents and has authored multiple publications.
