I am a professor who studies the history of gender and technology, as well as a former IT professional. I specialize in the history of computing and digital labor. My work explains why gender inequalities emerged, why they persist in high tech, and what the broader social and technical ramifications of this imbalance are. My award-winning book, Programmed Inequality, looks in depth at the negative effects discrimination has on high tech.
