Máirín is a principal interaction designer at Red Hat as well as the team lead for Fedora’s community design team. A recipient of the O’Reilly Open Source Award, she has over a decade of expertise in user experience and design in open source communities. Her portfolio includes a wide range of designs for FLOSS including Mailman/Hyperkitty, Anaconda, the Fedora project infrastructure, Spacewalk, virt-manager, the GNOME desktop, as well as other projects such as the SELinux and Container Coloring Books.

Máirín is a passionate advocate for software freedom, particularly in the creative domain. Her design workflow is 100% FLOSS, involving tools such as Inkscape, Gimp, and Scribus. She uses open formats and licensing for her design work. She’s also created and taught STEM classes in open source and design through a number of schools and community programs in the greater Boston area, and has mentored numerous Outreachy interns over the years.
